WHO reported on 8 June that the Bundibugyo virus outbreak was expanding in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with linked infections in Uganda. As of 6 June, the two countries had reported a combined 534 confirmed cases and 93 deaths among confirmed cases. Those figures were an interim outbreak assessment, not a final total.

Africa CDC, WHO and partners had launched a continental preparedness and response plan on 5 June seeking US$518 million. Priorities included testing, treatment capacity, contact tracing and cooperation across borders. WHO identified conflict and insecurity as obstacles to reaching affected communities. Its assessment placed the risk at very high in the DRC and high in Uganda, while the global risk remained low at the time of the report.
